Now even better - the first and only App to calculate the amount of desiccant required to protect your goods from moisture damage in export and semiconductor packaging. This app is indispensible for anyone shipping quality products internationally or domestically that wants to ensure their products arrive in dry conditions undamaged by moisture.


Export packaging according to DIN 55474

The safest and most cost effective type of export packaging is the proper use of the desiccant method – goods that are packaged together with DESI PAK® desiccant in a barrier film. Upon arrival the goods are immediately ready to use without any need for additional treatment or cleaning. The desiccant method is recognized internationally, and the amount of desiccant required can be calculated according to the German Industry Norm DIN 55473.

As the global leader in protective packaging, Clariant has developed this App to allow easy calculation of the required amount of desiccant. The following information is needed:
- Length, width and height of the packaging
- Amount and humidity level of dunnage (wood, cardboard, cushioning)
- Type of barrier film (Al-barrier or PE film)
- Temperature and humidity during packaging operations
- Maximum allowable humidity inside packaging during transport and storage
- Duration of transport and storage


Semiconductor packaging according to IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033

Quite a number of semiconductor devices are moisture sensitive and need to be protected during shipping and storage by packaging them with DESI PAK® desiccant bags and Humitector® indicator cards in moisture barrier bags (MBB). IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 provides a formula for calculation of the desiccant amount needed based on the following input:
- Length and width of MBB
- Moisture transmission rate (MVTR) of MBB
- Moisture contained in dunnage
- Duration of transport and storage

The App calculates the amount of desiccant Units and DESI PAK® bags based on this data. The result can be allocated to a project number and sent out and documented by email.

The App also features an integrated checklist for other packaging items like humidity indicators and indicator plugs and an interactive map to locate the closest Clariant sales office.
